Well, i had an interesting voice mail today from Dr. Petrovski’s nurse….  She said Dr. Petrovski had spoken to Dr. Pepperell (the dr. I saw last week since Petrovski was on vacation) and that Dr. Pepperell told her my concerns about waiting until the 27th to induce.  Dr. Petrovski then ok’d me for a procedure for this Wednesday, Oct. 21st at 5pm to start the induction process.  Basically, the hospital would give me Cervidil (a drug to help my cervix prepare for labor) and send me home.  I would then return to the hospital the next morning (this Thursday!) to start my induction.

I asked the nurse if Dr. Petrovski was sure this wasn’t too soon, and she said Dr. Petrovski approved all this, but that I could talk with her more about it at my appt tomorrow afternoon.  So…..  My appt at 3:45 will be a monumental one now!  I will talk with her about the pros/cons of inducing Thursday vs. the following Tuesday.  At this point, I really don’t think it will matter as my body is not progressing toward labor and it looks like an induction will be necessary either way.  I will express to her my concerns of reducing my chances of having to have a C-section, so maybe she’ll suggest waiting till Tuesday – I don’t know….  She may want to do an ultrasound to see how big the baby is…. she’ll of course check to make sure my blood pressure is still low, etc.

There are risks/benefits of inducing.  Here’s a helpful article if you want some reading material….

So…. just fyi!  Trying to keep everyone informed!  We will know more around 4pm tomorrow!  🙂

Still only 1cm dilated, so Baby Michel is not ready to make her appearance just yet….  I had to see a different doc yesterday since Dr. Petrovski’s on vacation.  This doc told me Petrovski scheduled October 27th as the date to induce me….  I was under the impression we were shooting for the 21st-23rd, but apparently they like to schedule these when they are on-call….  Petrovski isn’t on-call until the 27th…….

She could tell I wasn’t happy, but hey, there’s not much I can do about it I guess.  She estimated the baby’s weight to be 6.5lbs.

Next appt. is scheduled for Tuesday at 3:45pm with Petrovski.  So, unless Baby Michel decides to come on her own (which no one seems to be leaning toward…) looks like Oct. 27th will be the “lucky day.”  It also happens to be my bff’s daughter’s bday…  Sorry, Chris, Henry & Alexa!!

At my appointment last Thursday, Dr. Petrovski told me I was still only 1 cm dilated, 25% effaced, and at station -3.  In non-prego terms, that means not much closer to going into labor!!  A -4 in terms of “stations” means the baby is still floating freely in the uterus and has not descended into the pelvis.  The baby “crowns” at +4, so, as you can see, we have a ways to go…..

She seems to think this baby will need an exit date.  She is not too keen on waiting too many days past my due date.  She asked if I had a problem inducing before my due date, and my response was, “I was coming in here today to ask you what the ‘going rate’ was to induce NOW!”  She laughed and said, “Name my price, huh?”  She then informed me she would be on vacation all this week…. WHAT?!?!?!?!?!  But, I didn’t freak out on her.  She really seems to think this baby won’t come until we force her to…  So, I told her I’m all for inducing labor early!!

The plan:  I have an appt Thursday with one of the other doctors, then again on Tuesday, Oct. 20th with my doctor.  Dr. Petrovski is hoping I can make it till the 20th, then have her check me, then schedule the delivery later that week…  I’m thinking she’ll check me on the 20th and say, “Let’s have a baby tomorrow!  Or Thursday or Friday…”  Wow… just like that!!  I mean, I’ve had 9 months to prepare, but it still will feel so surreal to actually go into labor!

Of course all I can think about now is my water breaking at the most inopportune times…. movie theater, restaurant, church, Wal-mart, work, etc.  Chad even made us sit by the Holy Water fountain yesterday just in case….. Made me laugh….

So, any preferences on Baby Michel’s birthdate??  10/21/09 sounds like a good date, right?  Easy to remember for everyone??  That does out her on the cusp of being a Libra or Scorpio……  Guess that means she’ll have tendencies of both……

Won’t be long now!  Everyone keep your phones on, bags packed, and check your email regularly!!

Love to all,

Liz & Chad

Today is a big day.  We are now in October!  The month I am due!  Official date is still Oct. 24th.  I went to the dr yesterday and never in my life thought I could be so excited about something as small as 1 cm.  But, that’s what she said I am!  I am dilated 1 cm and the baby’s head is in position in my pelvis.  So, that was great news!!  She said the baby definitely got the memo and knows what she’s supposed to do.  She said the baby is still measuring great.  She also said that if I can get to 2 cm, that would greatly reduce the risk of me having a Caesarian birth if she has to induce me.

So of course everyone wants to know, what does this mean for Baby Michel’s arrival?  Well, not much really, except that my body is moving in the right direction.  I could stay at 1 cm for a week or several weeks…. I could get to 2cm and stay there a few weeks… It’s still up to God at this point!  I’ll just be watching my body for signs of labor and making sure the baby is still moving each day.  I don’t think I’ll need an ultrasound since the baby is not breech at this point.

FYI…. if my water breaks, Baby Michel will be delivered within a 24 hour period.  So, keep that in mind…  My dr also made me schedule all the rest of my appts so I could get on her calendar.  I told her that was BAD KARMA as I certainly did not want to see her on Oct. 27th for yet another pre-baby appt!!

That’s about all for now!  Talk to everyone soon!

Love to all,

9 months!!

9 months!!

Not much to report….  My last doctor’s appt. was Thursday.  Dr. said I was “no where close” to delivering……..  Great……  I will begin seeing her weekly now, so my next appt is tomorrow. The baby’s head and heartbeat were right underneath my belly button, so she was sitting very high.  I guess that’s why she said I was no where close!  I do feel like she’s dropped a little since my last appt.

I will start seeing the dr every week now.  Dr. Petrovski said to have my hospital bag packed so in case I come in for a check-up and she says, “You’re going to have a baby today!” I can call Chad and he can just go home, get my bag, and meet me at the hospital!  So, my bag is packed!!

We’ve set up the pack-n-play next to the bed, and made a space for a changing pad on our dresser.  Baby Michel will spend the first 2 weeks with us in our room.  Then, once Chad has to go back to work, we’ll move her to her crib and I’ll either sleep in the guest room on that side of the house or just use the monitor….  Not sure yet….

I’m just ready to see what she looks like already!  I haven’t been sleeping well, or feeling all that great, so I sure hope she comes soon!  Everyone be ready for “the call!”  We’ll probably just call our parents, then they can do the phone tree thing and call everyone else!!  🙂

Hope to have good news soon!

I have finished my rotation at the obgyn to meet all the other doctors at the practice.  My next appt. on 9/24/09 will be back with my doctor – Dr. Petrovski.  I haven’t seen her in about 6 weeks, so I’m looking forward to that!!

At my last appt., they drew blood to see if I was anemic.  Well, turns out this non-redmeat eater is (no surprise there…) just a little bit, so now I’m taking iron pills.  The only concern I had for the doctor yesterday was about this constant pain in my right side – under my rib cage.  I was sure it was the baby, but wanted to ask to be sure…..  Well, when she checked for the heartbeat, she had it on my lower right side… So i said, “Oh, she used to be on the left side…”  That’s when the doctor said, “Yep!  She is all squished on your right side.  This is what we call one of the ‘discomforts’ of pregnancy.  Usually doesn’t happen until around week 36, so you’re getting it a little early…”  GREAT!!!!!!!!  So, yes, Baby Michel’s feet are caught/stuck up underneath my right side rib cage and is causing me great discomfort all day long and depending on how I move excruciating pain…..  So, there’s nothing I can do about it….  Oh well…

Other than that, everything else is going well.  Blood pressure is still low, weight gain is still happening, feeling fine….  They did give me a flu shot yesterday.  Regular flu, not the swine… Those will be available Oct. 1st.

Chad and I have our second of four “prepared childbirth” classes tonight.  We get to take a tour of the hospital which he is excited about…

So, that’s about all!  I’m 33 weeks and 5 days today!

Love to you all,

Liz & Chad

This Saturday I will be 32 weeks (or 8 months) pregnant…  It’s been strange the last week telling everyone I only have 9 weeks left… I can remember back to when I had 9 months left!!

I wanted to share some info. from one of my weekly emails I get updating me on the progress of the baby.  The email states that my baby now weighs about 4 lbs. and is 17 inches long – although the dr. told me she was probably around 2.5lbs.  She is supposed to gain about 1/2 lb. every week now until the delivery.  So, looks like we’re going to have about a 7.5 lb. Baby Michel!

Another part of the weekly email is called “What you’re probably thinking…”  This week it says “I’m either having David Beckham’s love child or a future member of the Rockettes!”  So true…

Your Baby

Although your baby will still remain active, his days of trying out for Cirque du Soleil are nearly over. About this time your baby will settle into the head-down position in preparation for birth. Other fascinating facts:

  • Both you and baby are putting on some serious weight at this point. You’ll probably gain about a pound a week for the next few weeks, with half of that poundage bulking up baby. He’ll likely double his weight in the next eight weeks.
  • Ever wonder what your baby is doing in there these days? He’s busy blinking, looking around, grabbing things, making faces, practicing his breathing, peeing and listening to everything around him—pretty much exactly what he’ll be doing for the first three months of his life, sans the adoring audience and the flashing camera.
  • Your baby may (or may not) have a full head of hair now. If she’s a baldy, don’t worry. You can always buy a Baby Toupee or some adhesive barrettes.
  • By the end of this week, your baby will weigh about 4 pounds and measure over 17 inches long-about the length of a hot pair of above-the-knee boots. Christian Louboutin? Manolo Blahnik? We’re thinking Isaac Mizrahi for Target-you’ve got a nursery to furnish!

Speaking of the nursery…

It is almost 100% complete.  We added a glider rocking chair, artwork, and a small bookshelf from Target.  I wanted a bookshelf for Baby Michel’s books that was short enough for her to reach – when that time comes…  It also works well with the brown baskets from my baby shower!  They fit perfectly on the shelf and can hold her toys, stuffed animals, etc.

We are practicing using our stroller and all its fancy features.  Learning how to secure the car seatin the stroller properly.  We have a car seat fitting class on Sept. 5th to learn how to properly install the car seat in our vehicles.  We will also be taking the “Prepared Childbirth” class ( a 4-week course) on Thursday nights in September.  We will also attend a “baptism preparation” class at church, and our last class at the hospital – breastfeeding.

That’s about all for now!  Below are a few pictures from my baby shower in Mandeville!  It was such a fabulous day!

I am officially 7 months (28 weeks and 2 days) pregnant!

Time seems to be flying by!  I don’t feel nearly ready yet… I keep telling the baby to stay in there, cause I’m not ready yet!!  Chad is adding some final details to the nursery – just wall decor, lamp, shelving, etc.  I’ll be sure to post more pics as soon as it is complete.  I am excited for my first baby shower on August 15th!  I am so thankful my sisters have put this together for me.  They are great.

Chad and I have completed the Infant CPR/Babycare class at the hospital, and are now know what to do if the baby chokes or stops breathing.  We (or Chad) also learned how to swaddle, burp, bathe  and change the baby!  Ms. Sheila – we also had a lady give a presentation on cloth diapers!!  I can honestly say that today’s cloth diapers look so cute and super-easy to use!  I wouldn’t be opposed to the idea…  🙂

Tomorrow we start a 4-week Prepared Childbirth Class. This course is designed to help mom and her support person to make informed choices, and feel prepared for the upcoming delivery.

Course topics include:
– Anatomy of the pregnant women/common discomforts
– Terminology
– Role of the support person
– Medications and epidural anesthesia
– Relaxation/breathing techniques
– Teaching videos
– Birth options
– Cesarean birth
– Hospital Tour
– Postpartum care (after delivery)

As far as the latest dr. appts. go…..  I took my glucose screening test on Friday, and those results should be in this week.  If everything is normal, that’s great.  If not, I have to do a re-test which takes like 3 hours!!  My next scheduled appt. is Aug. 13th at 2:15 with another doctor in the practice.  My dr. likes for her patients to at least meet the other 3 obgyns in the practice in case for some reason they would have to deliver my baby instead of her.

That’s about all from baby world….  See you all very soon!

Love,

Liz & Chad

I had another obgyn appt on Friday.  Dr. Petrovski was happy to see that I finally have a belly now!  She listened to the baby’s heartbeat and measured my belly and said everything was just perfect.  My next appt is July 31st where I will have a glucose screening test.  I have to drink an orange soda, then they’ll test my blood to see how my body reacts to sugar.  This is to be sure I am not developing gestational diabetes.

My doctor said after July 31st she’ll see me every 2 weeks again, and then every week as we get closer to Oct. 24th.

I signed Chad and I up for several classes at the hospital where we will deliver.  The classes are free since we’ll be delivering there.  The first one is an Infant CPR/Babycare class that meets twice.  The second is a Prepared Childbirth class that meets once a week for 4 weeks.  We also will attend a Car Seat Safety class one Saturday to make sure we know how to install the car seat in both of our vehicles.  Did you know 9 out of 10 people install their car seats incorrectly?  I mean, you think, how hard can it be, right?  But, you’ll think you’ve installed it correctly, and sure enough, you’re putting your child at risk!!!  I will also attend several breastfeeding classes – I told Chad he was off the hook for those.  🙂

Alot going on in the baby world these days!  Chad finished the nursery!  He finished our “secret passageway door” a few weeks ago.  The door that will allow us to get to the baby’s room via our closet instead of walking around the entire house.  Everyone that sees it comments on how it looks like the builder put it there since it looks EXACTLY like the other doors in the house.  He did a great job!  He installed a chair rail, caulked it, and painted it.  Painted the wall underneath the chair rail a purpleish color, and installed a white ceiling fan!  We purchased the crib and dresser/changing table combo yesterday.  We’re excited to put all of that in the room in few weeks.  Here is a picture!  The crib converts to a toddler bed, day bed, and full size bed.

I am looking forward to my baby shower in Louisiana on August 15th!  The shower will be in Mandeville at Becky’s house at 1:00pm.  I think we ended up inviting almost 40 people!!  Should be loads of fun!!

We are still narrowing down names…  It may not be until we see our baby girl before either of us feels 100% sure on any name!  But that will be ok since Lucky is learning where “the baby’s room” is and “the baby’s toys” and “the baby’s clothes!”  I am going to hire a trainer to come over in a few weeks to give both he and I a refresher course!!

Hope all of you are well.  We will see you soon!
